The lowdown in Motown - Day 20 of the Trip

We got into Detroit earlier this afternoon after a 4 hour drive from Cincinnati.  We're staying with my brother at his home a little north of Detroit.  Detroit is where my entire family is from.  All of my mom and dad's family were born and raised in Detroit or Flint.  My brother drove us around and showed us some of the old neighborhoods, including the apartment building where my parents lived way back in the 1950s.

Anyway, the highlight of the day was our trip to the Motown Museum on Grand Blvd in Detroit - something I've wanted to for several years.  In my opinion, there is no better music ever created than what came out of Motown in the 60's and 70's. Even the Beatles, as we were told on the tour today, thought the music that they made was the best.  I've been raising Michael and Andie on the music and they love it.  It's so much better than the crap they call music today.

Here are a few pictures from the outside.  They don't let you take pictures inside, but trust me, it is very cool. We got to stand and sing on the tour in Studio A - the very place where all the music was recorded from 1959 to 1972.  The artifacts in the museum are amazing and the house looks just like it did back in the 60s.

Tomorrow, Helen and Andie head back to Phoenix and will rejoin us in about a week when we reach New York.  Tomorrow evening, Michael and I will see the Tigers / Mariners game at Comerica Park.  We hear the park is really nice and we look forward to seeing it.

  1. Love seeing photos of Detroit . . . both sides of my family have roots in Detroit, both my parents were raised there and I was born downtown. Let me know what you think of "new" Tiger Stadium. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the old Tiger Stadium and have great memories of games there. Haven't been to the new stadium because I think it might break my heart. Enjoy your time in Motown!
